| Romeo and Juliet. ACT I Scene 1 |
Romeo is a 16 years old boy, son of the Montague's family and he is a person who seems to like being alone thinking about his personal problems and avoid the conflict between his family and the Capulet family The firts thing that we learn for Romeo is that he is depressed of his sexual relationship with Rosaline…Romeo makes his entrance in the film by standing next to a Luna Park and thinking about his problems!!! We can actually say that he isn’t that present in the first pages of the book and in the beginning of the film… My first impression was that Romeo lives in a misery which comes from Rosaline who doesn’t want to live some sexual experience with him as he says to his cousin!!! A very impressive thing about Romeo is that the way that he speaks and the vocabulary that he uses is concerned about love and peace!!! There are some beautiful speeches coming out from his innocent mouth that makes you imagine and feel the way that he does!!!! The most important think to note is his timidity and the way that he underestimates himself!!! And these two elements are indicated in the party scene where the Capulet family invites the most part of the city except from the Montague family!! But even this restriction doesn't affect the Montague's boys included Romeo to go to the party disguised in order to prevent the Capulets to identify them!!! When they reach in the mansion we remark a hesitation from the side of Romeos. He wants to stay alone and let the other boys go!!! This is weird because in the beginning he had a good feeling about this party!!! Fortunately his best friend Mercutio and his cousin Benvolio convince him to come with them and that's how Romeo gets away from his past and starts all over again!!!
