The Nurse.

The Nurse is on the capulet side, she is the personal servant, guardian (and nurse) of Juliet Capulet,
and has been here for her since she was born.
As the primary person to like, she is therefore Juliet's confidante, she is aswell one of the few people, along with Friar Laurence, to be made aware of the magic romance between Romeo and Juliet.
The Nurse is very open with her opinions, advice, and feelings with Juliet. When talking about Paris, she talks like a schoolgirl gossiping about Paris' looks:
"A man, young lady! Lady, such a man as all the world--why, he's a man of wax."
She is constantly chattering,
some several quotes of the nurse :
pages 45: "No, he's a fine flower, truly, a flower."
pages 47: " Go, girl, look for a man who'll give you happy nights at the end of happy days."
pages 119: "If he says anything against me, I'll humble him, even if he were stronger than he is-"
When the Nurse suggests that Juliet should forget about Romeo and marry Paris, she loses Juliet's trust and confidence.
Juliet decides to seek the help of Friar Laurence, thereafter she no longer involves the Nurse in her secret plans. The Nurse plays a critical role in Romeo and Juliet. Her relationship with major characters and her part in the secretive romance of the two lovers causes the play's action to move quickly and in a powerful way.

Do you think that the nurse did the right thing to help romeo and juliet to get married ?

  1. I find the description that you did about the nurse really good, and I agree with everything that you said. The Nurse is Juliet's faithful confidante, and spent her entire life to take care of her, so I think that she did the right think when she helped Romeo and Juliet to get married. Indeed, she's the closest friend of Juliet and is probably the only one who knows her so well. Therefore she's well situated to see Juliet's love towards Romeo, and saw that their love was eternal and indestructible. She finaly decided to help them because she realised it was better than stop them, what was useless.

  2. From my point of view, the Nurse is really one of the most important character in the play ! If she hadn't made the first move, by meeting Romeo and take the news, it would have been a lot more complicated for Juliette to be aware of Romeo's success with Friar Lawrence. I think that all this story could not have happened without the Nurse an Friar Lawrence.
On top of that, I find her really friendly and careful, which is really important for Juliette who is almost her daughter. I also appreciate that she never scold her for becoming enamoured of a Montague.
I liked the fact that you added some quotes, it helps us to understand her personality better !
However, when you talked about the Nurse complimenting Paris, i think it would have been good to add that, the reason she does so, is that she wants Juliette - to whom she devoted her entire life - to have a simple, enjoyable and even more important, safe life.

  3. I completely agree with what was said about the nurse because she is one of the most important character in the play. without her nothing would have happened. She really believed in Romeo and Juliette's love (that is why She helped them for their marriage in the church with friar Lawrence) until the death of Tybalt. She decided to try to convince Juliette to marry Paris even if she already knew that it would not be easy and she will lose Juliette trust.

  4. You're description of the nurse is good, it's very representative. For me she looks more like a mother than a servant.
I think that the nurse is one of the most important character in the play. In fact she takes care of Juliet she knows Juliet better than anyone (better than her own mother) and as you said she is her confidante. She also can do anything to make Juliet happy and to keep her love. For example she helps Juliet and Romeo to get married, even she is against this marriage because she knows how dangerous it is. If the nurse was not here, maybe the marriage would never be. The nurse accepts to meet Romeo and take the news, that's why I think she did the right thing to help romeo and juliet to get married.

  5. Oh yes, The Nurse is also my favorite character! How could it not be? She is just so hiliarious!
The Nurse is one of the funniest characters in the play, she is Juliet's confidante. The Nurse, with Friar Laurence, is one of the facilitators of Juliet's relationship with Romeo. She plays the role of messenger and it is her idea to bring Romeo to Juliet even after he has been banished. But when Juliet needs her most – after her parents order her to marry Paris – the Nurse betrays her. The idea that Juliet would want to sacrifice herself for love is incomprehensible to her.
